Dublin City Council Community Grant Scheme 2012

Dublin City Council have just announced that Applications to their Community Gramts Scheme for 2012 are available. Please see below for an Application Form and please note the following:-

1. The closing date for applications is: Monday the 30th of January 2012 at 5.00 PM Applications will not be accepted after that time/date, and no exceptions can be made.
2. All applications must be returned to:-

The Office of the Director of Community and Enterprise,

Block 4, Floor 1,

Civic Offices, Wood Quay,

Dublin, 8.

3. These grants are for small financial assistance (approx €500) for proven projects with a track record of working in the area.
4. Multiple applications for similar projects from one source will not be accepted.
5. Given the timescale for assessment and the requirement to put them before the Local Area Council Meeting, the payment of approved grants will not happen until mid 2012 (June/July).

Also attached is a Community Groups Update Information Form which should be returned to the Crumlin Area Office.

New Service in the area: Muscular Dystrophy Ireland

Muscular Dystrophy Ireland

Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI) is a voluntary organization, which was established in 1972 by a small group of people in the west of Ireland to support families who had a member with muscular dystrophy. Since then it has grown considerably and it now has a membership of over 580 members and a network of branches throughout Ireland. MDI’s primary objective is to provide information and support for people and their families who are affected by muscular dystrophy and allied neuromuscular conditions.

Muscular dystrophy is the collective name for a range of neuromuscular conditions, which are characterized by the progressive weakening and wasting of the muscles. It can affect adults and children. Some forms arise at birth or in childhood, others may not manifest themselves until later in life. Each type of muscular dystrophy arises from a different genetic mutation or deletion which is inherited from one or both parents, or is due to a spontaneous mutation. This means that there are many families who have more than one member with the condition.

There is no cure for muscular dystrophy but there have been huge advances in increasing the quality of life for people with the condition and scientists around the world are working hard to develop new treatments.

MDI provides support to individuals and families to assist them to live an independent life of their own choosing. Family Support Workers and Youth / Respite Workers work throughout Ireland and national supports including information and research, transport, respite, fundraising and PR are coordinated from MDI’s new Head Office in Chapelizod, Dublin 20. This building also houses a fully accessible apartment which is available for short term breaks for individuals and families.

 Local Childcare Resource Service – Dublin South Central

The former Childcare Information Bureau located in Crumlin Village has relocated to Ballyfermot. The service is now called the Local Childcare Resource Service (LCRS) and is part of the support structure provided by the Dublin City Childcare Committee. The LCRS provides information for parents, childcare workers and service provdiers, childminders and students on childcare related issues specifically to the Dublin South Central area, including Chapelizod, Ballyfermot, Cherry Orchard, Crumlin, Bluebell, Drimnagh, Walkinstown, Kimmage Rialto, Inchicore, Kilmainham, Dolphin’s Barn, South Circular Road, The Coombe, parts of Harold's Coss and Terenure.

The LCRS provides the following supports:

Childcare Providers and Childcare workers:

·         Support with setting up a new childcare service

·         Training workshop sand information on Accredited training

·         Networks to meet other people working in childcare

·         Information and support on Government funding programmes

·         Information and support on childcare issues e.g. HR, Legislation, Governance, Child Protection, Sustainability

·         Childcare books and resources available for reference in the LCRS

Parents/Carers/Guardians:

·         Information on Government funded childcare places

·         Support with choosing childcare services for your child

·         Lists of local childcare services, including full-day care, Childminders, sessional playgroups and pre-schools and schools

·         Parent networks and information workshops on relevant topics. Eg. Behaviour management

·         Publications on relevant childcare issues and services for parents

·         List of local Parent and Toddler Groups

·         Support with parent and toddler groups with applications for funding

Childminders

·         Assistance when setting up a childminding service, including  support visits to the home by a Childminding Advisory Officer

·         Ongoing support for established childminding services

·         Guidance in record keeping and developing policies

·         Mutual support through a local network of childminders
