PLACES STILL AVAILABLE ON DISABILITY EQUALITY TRAINING & SOCIAL POLICY WORKSHOPS

Disability Equality Awareness Training takes place on the 5th November at 9.30am in the Base Youth Centre.

Disability Equality Specialist Support Agency will deliver the training.
The session will examine issues on the way disabled people are treated in everyday life, challenge myths and misconceptions, and look at the Medical Model of Social Models of Disability. It will also look at how staff and volunteers interact with people of different abilities.




A Social policy workshop takes place from 10am – 4pm in 4 Drumfinn Park on the 6th November.
Brian Harvey, Social Researcher will deliver the training.
This will give a background to social policy in Ireland and also cover how to make policy proposals and how your group can work to develop and affect policy on a local, national and political level.

Disability Equality Proofing Training - Course Outline

 

This one day course is for people working in local community and voluntary groups.  The overall aim of this training is to enable community development workers to implement Disability Equality Proofing in their work.

 

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able

 

-          To clarify the meaning of equality for disabled people through community development.

-          To advance an understanding of disability proofing.

-          To enable staff to understand the requirements of the disability proofing process.

-          To identify the practical steps to implement disability proofing.

-          To generate discussion and agreement regarding how best to implement disability proofing on a day-to-day basis.

 

Course content – day one

·         Introductions & Outline of the Day

·         The Equality Framework in the Context of People with Disabilities

·         Why Disability Equality Proof?

·         The Process of Disability Equality Proofing

·         Defining Disability Equality Proofing

·         Practical Exercise - Implementing Disability Equality Proofing

·         Implementing Disability Equality Proofing on a day-to-day basis

A full day session takes place on the 10th October between 10am – 4pm in 4 Drumfinn Park.

Outline of the session on Fundraising for Community & Voluntary Groups

·         Identify the elements of a successful grant application

·         Work with their group to identify potential sources of income

·         Understand how to develop a strong case for support when approaching a corporate donor
